SEABISCUIT / WAR ADMIRAL MATCH RACE OF 1938
This very rare film of the 1938 "Match Race of the Century" pitted MAN O'WAR's own son, WAR ADMIRAL, the 1938 Triple Crown winner, and his little upstart grandson, SEABISCUIT, against each other in a race that gave race fans an incredible moment in racing history.
From a "lap and tap" start without a starting gate, these two great horses battled it out neck and neck during their entire trip around the track, including an incredible stride for stride battle on the backstretch.
The original film footage used in this production was found on a dust-covered shelf of a stock news footage shop in New York in 1970 by one of the show's producers, and purchased both the film and its use for under $100.
Dale Robertson narrates this mini-documentary on the events leading up to and including the big race providing some historical background. Dale even took over the job of calling the race! You've got to see it to believe it!
