ECLIPSE: THE THOROUGHBRED FOR ALL TIME
ECLIPSE was so headstrong and stubborn that he was nearly untrainable in his early years and thus didn't run his first race until the age of five - back in the 1700's training and races were much more difficult and harder on horses than what exists for today's runners - many races were four-five miles long and were often run in heats on the same day!
ECLIPSE made up for lost time on the track by winning all eighteen races in his two-year career - wherever ECLIPSE went, he'd win and the only bets on him were of how many lengths he'd win by! He started a premature stud career only because no owners would dare enter their steeds to race against him; and so the mighty racehorse went on to prove himself as an equally successful stallion for the next seventeen years creating the future of the Thoroughbred. More than 200 years after his death in 1789 of colic, ECLIPSE's spirit lives on in the many Thoroughbreds of today.
This definitive documentary about the racing world traces ECLIPSE's blood-line which has created over 95% of today's Thoroughbreds worldwide. It spans the history of Thoroughbred racing from its formative years, and the kings and queens who made it all possible.
A delightful feature that's sure to thrill horse racing fans and historians alike.
