GREAT RACES (NATIONAL HUNT HORSES) 1979-1988
Bob Champion and Jonjo O'Neill scaled the heights in the saddle but had to face far tougher personal fights. The genius of Michael Dickinson and John Francome earned great rewards. And the ladies also made their mark - Jenny Pitman's training of Grand National winner CORBIERE, Caroline Beasley's victory on ELIOGARTHY and the success of National Hunt's best-loved patron, the Queen Mother, with SPECIAL CARGO, LAST SUSPECT, BOBSLINE and MAORI VENTURE enjoyed fleeting moments of glory while SILVER BUCK and DIAMOND EDGE, BADSWORTH BOY and WAYWARD LAD came back year after year.
And as always steeplechasing has its great favorites such as ALDANITI, GRITTAR, DAWN RUN (the only mare to have won both Champion Hurdle AND The Gold Cup), SEE YOU THEN (Triple Champion Hurdle winner), BREGAWN, BURROUGH HILL LAD, LITTLE OWL, PEARLYMAN, HALLO DANDY, WEST TIP, TIED COTTAGE, ALVERTON, MONKSFIELD and NIGHT NURSE. In 1979 it was SEA PIGEON and ten years later it was DESERT ORCHID.
This feature captures them all in their finest performances but the visual quality of this feature may be variable due to inconsistency of source material through the decades.
