POINT GIVEN 10-RACE TIME CAPSULE
The loss of a horse the caliber of POINT GIVEN was a bitter pill for just about everyone in racing to swallow and it's a reminder of the challenges this industry faces as it attempts to bring new fans into a sport whose stars are so fleeting. Fans did not have the opportunity to see POINT GIVEN compete against older horses which remains the best measure of the quality of a top three-year-old. His untimely injury also deprived us of a much anticipated match against top European three-year-old superstar, GALILEO, in the Breeders' Cup Classic. "I feel very cheated that we didn't get to see his best...POINT GIVEN was just beginning to reach his potential and his best performances lay ahead of him", both Baffert and jockey, Gary Stevens said.
The strapping chestnut son of 1995 Kentucky Derby winner, THUNDER GULCH, out of the stakes-winning TURKOMAN mare, TURKO'S TURN, ended his racing career with nine wins in thirteen starts, three seconds and earnings of $3,968,500. His fifth-place finish as the favorite in the Kentucky Derby - the only time he ran worse than second remains an anomaly; many suspect the track was not to his liking. In his two years of racing, POINT GIVEN captured six Grade I events, competed over nine tracks being victorious on eight and being second by a nose on the other, is the first horse ever to win four consecutive $1 million races, is the first horse since 1967 Horse-of-the-Year DAMASCUS to win the Preakness, Belmont and Travers and only the seventh horse in history to accomplish the feat..
As his success grew so did his following; he drew the largest crowd in Saratoga and Monmouth history for the Travers and Haskell. Triple Crown attendance was also up across the board - the largest crowd ever attended the Belmont for a non-Triple Crown Belmont. The colt had personality and brought star power to the races. ''
THIS EXCITING 8-HOUR TIME CAPSULE of POINT GIVEN comes as a lasting tribute to one of the great Thoroughbreds of the modern era. The 2000 Kentucky Cup Juvenile is the first race shown...in its entirety from start to finish, then the following races are shown in their ENTIRE TELEVISED BROADCASTS so you don't miss a second of footage: The 2000 Champagne Stakes, 2000 Breeders' Cup Juvenile, 2001 San Felipe Stakes, 2001 Santa Anita Derby, 2001 Kentucky Derby, 2001 Preakness, 2001 Belmont, 2001 Haskell and 2001 Travers Stakes.
The Sport needed a superstar and he was it...people turned out to see him every time he ran."I've never had a horse with such a following" said Baffert, and Prince Ahmed bin Salman of the Thoroughbred Corporation, the horse's owner and breeder, couldn't believe how the crowd reacted to him, "...they loved the horse!" POINT GIVEN also provided something of a sideshow for racing photographers with his early-morning antics, rearing up like a rebel without a cause on his way to and from the track - just playful gestures. THIS TIME CAPSULE IS LOADED with endless footage of morning workouts and his wild rearing-up escapades that he's notorious for, interviews with POINT GIVEN's connections: trainer, Bob Baffert, rider Gary Stevens and owner/breeder Prince Ahmed bin Salman.
On closing day at Del Mar, the recently retired POINT GIVEN bid a final farewell to his devoted fans between races as he was paraded to the winner's circle for one last time on his way to Three Chimneys Farm - you'll witness a last glimpse of him too!
AS AN ADDED BONUS: The year-end Eclipse awards are shown - POINT GIVEN being the ceremony's ultimate and well-deserved award recipient of Three-Year-Old Campion and Horse-of-the-Year honors to cap off a one-of-a-kind 8-hour, 10-Race extraordinaire - truly a collector's item.
POINT GIVEN was syndicated for 50 shares and is standing for a fee of $125,000 live foal; the share price is $1 million which puts a value of $50 million on the colt, second only to FUSAICHI PEGASUS.
SILVER CHARM and POINT GIVEN - they were both superstars that captured the public's imagination with their talent...it is mind-boggling that they once stood side-by-side at Three Chimneys.
So while POINT GIVEN headed to the breeding shed, American racing was once again put in the position to search for its next, "Big Horse". Whether you're an owner, breeder, or fan of racing, the search for the next POINT GIVEN is part of what makes this game so great!
