LESTER PIGGOTT: A CLASSIC TRIBUTE
LESTER PIGGOTT is probably the greatest jockey the world has ever known and has dominated the sport in Europe for over 37 years! In the 1984 St. Leger at Doncaster he powered home the brilliant COMMANCHE RUN to break Fran Buckle's long-standing record of 27 classic wins. At 50-years-old, he added one more classic making his final tally 29 classic winners when partnering SHADEED to victory in the 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket.
This feature includes film footage of all 29 classic winners LESTER PIGGOTT rode:
CREPELLO - 1957 Epsom, CAROZZA - 1957 Oaks, ST. PADDY - 1960 Epsom and St. Leger, SIR IVOR - 1968 Epsom and St. Leger, RIBERO - 1968 St. Leger, NIJINSKY II - 1970 2,000 Guineas/Epsom/St. Leger, HUMBLE DUTY - 1970 1,000 Guineas, ATHENS WOOD - 1971 St. Leger, ROBERTO - 1972 Epsom, BOUCHER - 1972 St. Leger, JULIETTE MARNY - 1975 Oaks, EMPERY - 1976 Epsom, THE MINSTREL - 1977 Epsom, FAIRY FOOTSTEPS - 1981 1,000 Guineas, BLUE WIND - 1981 Oaks, TEENOSO - 1983 Epsom, CIRCUS PLUMS - 1984 Oaks, COMMANCHE RUN - 1984 St. Leger, and SHADEED - 1985 2,000 Guineas.
