POWER IN THE BLOOD: THE STORY OF THE IRISH THOROUGHBRED
This documentary will provide a deep insight into Ireland's most successful international sport and the billion euro Irish thoroughbred industry. It looks at the story of the Irish thoroughbred horse and, with the help of top breeders, trainers, jockeys and scientists, asks what really makes a champion, and can you really predict a winner.
Ireland is a recognized world-leader in thoroughbred breeding and racing and relative to its size, Ireland punches well above its weight, being the largest producer of thoroughbred foals in Europe and the fourth overall in the world. Behind every successful thoroughbred there is a sophisticated industry where the worlds of time-honored horsemanship and cutting edge science meet to produce some of the fastest horses on the planet.
The film looks into the science and human skills behind the Irish racing industry's ability to produce so many winners, and visits the world-famous Coolmore Stud and Ballydoyle training facility, The Irish National Stud, Goffs Bloodstock Sales House, Gilltown Stud and Curragh-based Irish Equine Centre. There are interviews with Michael Kinane, John Oxx and Johnny Murtagh, and we meet equine superstars, GALILEO - universally acknowledged as the best sire in the world, who stands in Coolmore Stud in County Tipperary; INVINCIBLE SPIRIT in The Irish National Stud - the most lucrative stallion in the history of the stud; and SEA THE STARS who stands in Gilltown Stud, County Kildare, whose progeny has already produced three Group 1 winners from his first crop of 3-year-olds. These are currently the top three stallions in Europe.
