LOCHSONG: QUEEN OF SPEED
LOCHSONG came back to Kingsclere in a cloud of admiring superlatives - a far cry from the unknown filly who arrived there two years earlier unraced, unsound, dismissed without ability, and quite possibly untrainable. It was not an easy road for LOCHSONG, being unsound for most of her career with weak joints and knees and fighting off lameness early in her two-year-old season. A year off with rest, swimming and grazing was the break she needed to come back and respond gamely to the arduous training task needed to bring her back to competitive/athletic form.
The plan had always been to retire and breed her after her first win as she came from a superb pedigree, but after two wins from three races as a three-year-old, her owner changed his mind as she showed a tremendous will to race.
As a four-year-old, she steadily improved and rose in the ratings after a rocket-like launch of six victories in six months of handicap sprint races; she had gained the seasoning she lacked and then went off to reel off one win after another. This darling filly defied all the odds to overcome physical and mental adversities to win many of Europe's most prestigious races - most with her soul-mate, FRANKIE DETTORI.
In her final race after four racing seasons, hoards of loyal fans came out to cheer her on - a very emotional send-off.
This is the full story of LOCHSONG's career from her humble origins to championship status with exclusive interviews from those who knew her best. This feature captures LOCHSONG's greatest moments from her surge through the handicap ranks all the way to triumph in the Group One Nunthorpe Stakes and her dual annihilation of Europe's finest sprinters in the Prix L'Abbaye. LOCHSONG will be enormously missed and always remembered with fondness and affection.
