RUN FOR THE ROSES: A DERBY ANGEL w/BONUS FOOTAGE
Included is rare footage of trainer, WOODY STEPHENS and his dual-entry of horses: JUDGER and CORDERO's mount, and
eventual winner, CANNONADE. See the entire running of the 1974 Centennial Derby as CANNONADE crosses the wire first of 23 entries, winning CORDERO his first set of roses.
CORDERO and Cuban Trainer, LAZ BARERRA teamed up with Puerto Rican sensation, BOLD FORBES, to give the 1976 Derby
a definite Latin beat. Watch as BOLD FORBES beats the favored HONEST PLEASURE in the 102nd Derby giving LAZ BARERRA his first roses and CORDERO his second.
CORDERO'S third and final trip to the Derby winners' circle came in 1985 when his mount, and eventual Horse-of-the-Year, SPEND A BUCK, won it in wire to wire fashion. For the man from Puerto Rico with over 7,000 victories in his Hall of Fame riding career, his three biggest triumphs in racing came in America's most famous race, the Kentucky Derby.
AS AN ADDED BONUS...several mini segments are shown after the main feature:
1) A SPEND A BUCK stallion commercial
2) A 2005 TVG phone interview clip in which ANGEL CORDERO announces that he will return to the saddle on 10/2/05 to ride INDIAN VALE in the 2005 Cotillion Handicap for trainer, Todd Pletcher
3) The entire televised broadcast of ANGEL CORDERO riding INDIAN VALE in the Philadelphia Park 2005 Cotillion Handicap
(42 Minutes)
