2006 ECLIPSE AWARDS (Entire Televised Broadcast)
Eclipse Awards are bestowed upon the Thoroughbred horses and individuals whose outstanding achievements have earned them the title of Champion in their respective divisions. The Eclipse Awards are named after the great 18th Century racehorse and foundation sire ECLIPSE, who began racing at age five and was undefeated in eighteen starts, including eight walkovers. ECLIPSE sired the winners of 344 races, including three Epsom Derbies.
Thoroughbred racing's night of champions took place at the Regent Beverly Wilshire in Beverly Hills, California, and the Darley Stable cleaned up as their horse INVASOR was named 2006 Horse of the Year and Champion Older Male while their colt BERNARDINI defeated the fallen hero, BARBARO, to win Champion Three-Year Old Male. They also tied with BARBARO'S owner Lael Stables for Outstanding Owner of the year.
